How to produce edm Songs?
Answers
Explanation:
This was a question I always asked in the beginning of my EDM production, but I could teach you now.
Step 1 : Getting a DAW
Before we get into this step, you might ask what is a DAW. A DAW, also known as a digital audio workstation, is a type of plugin that allows you to make any type of music, but mainly EDM. If you’ve ever owned a notation software, it is pretty similar, except instead of writing into a staff, you write into a piano roll which generates MIDI. MIDI is a digital set of notes played by a virtual instrument. But more on that later. Anyways, to select a DAW, you need to decide how much you want to spend and which one you like the best. Try every DAW you hear about, because you may find your favorite. Don't worry, most DAWs have demos you could try. I recommend trying Fl Studio, Ableton, and Cubase. Also, if you are looking in the lower price range, look at Reason and Studio One. Once you have found your favorite one and bought it, you can move onto the next step.
Step 2 : Learning your DAW
This I cannot teach, because you might use a different DAW than me, which wouldn't do any good becuase I don't know your DAW probably as well as I know mine. But, there is always many beginner tutorials out there on YouTube for every DAW. Once you have learned your program, preceed to the next step.
Step 3 : Learning Music Theory
Music Theory is a complex topic, but it isn’t hard to learn. Though, because it is complex, I can’t teach you it. But, I could state everything you need to learn. The first skill is learning about notes, articulations, and dynamics. The next skill is chords. You need to learn what the three different types of chords are called, and how to make one. Then, you need to understand how the song flows with the chords. Now, the third skill is composition. This includes time signature, scales, melodies and how songs are made, and a lot more. So once you've read this, go search up everything on music theory and the skills I showed. Now, if you are done, move on to the next step.
Step 4 : The Last Step, Learning Sound Design and The World of Mixing
The most complex step. So complex, I can't teach you about it at all. But, to start to learn it, you need to get your favorite plugin, or synth, in your DAW and search up the basics of it and how to make your own sounds on it while knowing what everything does. After that, you should probably go to Youtube and search up more about synthesis engines. Now, the mixing and mastering area. To learn about these, search how to master a song, and then how to mix. You will get many tutorial on these searches, so don't get overwhelmed. To get the most information, I recommend watching them all.
Now, you have finally learned the basics of EDM, and you can make some music. But, just remember, you won't be good in a day, it could take years. It only took me 6 months to make good music, so it depends. But, if you wanna know something, don't be afraid to search it up on Youtube. If you wanna know though on how professionals make their music, I recommend watching interviews on Future Music Magazin, and listening to podcasts on the EDM Prodcast. But that is everything I can teach you, so good luck in the EDM world!
