How to prove that a given solution is acidic or basic

if you want to prove that it is acidic or basic then you can test it with litmus paper-       take one red litmus paper  then drop a basic sollution in it and if its colour changes in blue then it is base and then take one blue litmus paper and drop a acidic sollution and if its colour changes in red then its acid.
