How to prove that root 5 is irrational? the contradiction method is not right , because we can do that with root 16 also , assume root 16 is rational , then root16=a/b where a and b are co-prime, then take b to other side and square the equation, 16bsquare= a square, so therefore 16 divides a , then a=16 c , 256csquare=16bsquare, 16 c square =b square, so 16 also divides b square, this contradicts assumption and so 16 is irrational
