Conc. aq. sol. of zinc(II) chloride (ZnCl2) is strongly acidic, due to HCl generated by partial hydrolysis, while the ZnO precipitation that could otherwise concomitantly occur, can be prevented by further HCl addition. This also decreases the solubility of the salt and that of the HCl, due to common ion effect. You may crystallize the salt from this solution by heating under vacuum. It can be further purified by recrystallization from some organic solvents, such as diethyl ether or 1,4-dioxane. The purified salt is hygroscopic and must be kept protected from atmospheric humidity.
