The elements in middle of reactivity series are found usually in the form of sulphides and carbonate ores. They can be reduced by first roasting (in case of sulphides) or calcination(in case of carbonate ores)
Then we have to reduce the oxides into corresponding metals by using carbon as reducing agent
ZnS + O2 ----> ZnO + SO2 (roasting)
ZnO + C ----->Zn + CO
