HOW TO SEPARATE:-

1. black copper oxide from a mixture of copper oxide and zinc oxide.

2. to separate CO from amixture of CO and CO2.

1. Copper oxide is metallic oxide. Metallic oxides are basic and can react with acids. Zinc oxide is an amphoteric oxide and it can react with acids as well as base. In order to separate copper oxide from zinc oxide, add NaOH solution to the mixture. Zinc oxide being amphoteric will react with NaOH to form Na22+[ Zn(OH)4]2- whereas copper oxide will remain undissolved . Zinc oxide can be recovered from the solution adding acid to it.

2. There are many ways to separate CO and CO2 from their mixture , a typical one is fractional distillation

This method of separation is used when there is a difference in Boiling point or critical temperature of the given liquids or gases. This process occurs at critical temperature and pressure. Since, CO and CO2 have different critical temperature and critical pressure, they can be separated out from this method..

Another one being,by the use of adsorbent .BASF is an acid resistant silica adsorbent which is used for the separation of CO2 from gas mixtures. It is also used for de- humidification and adsorption heat storage.
