How to separate a mixture of carbon tetrachloride and water ????

Firstly These liquids are immiscible - they do not mix. So a piece of equipment called a separating funnel is used.
Each liquid is run out separately.

Method- By using a separating funnel. When both are mixed, water forms the upper layer while CCl4 is present in the bottom layer. There is a knob at the bottom of the separating funnel which can be opened and CCl4 can be poured out while water can be poured in a separate container.
