Potassium nitrate is soluble with water while potassium chlorate is insoluble with water, the best way of separating them is by adding cold water to the solution with some little , there will be a formation of two immiscible liquid the bottom layer will be water with potassium nitrate and the top layer will be potassium chlorate, decantation can therefore be applicable
