Add the mixture of sand and salt in water and stir the solution thus formed. You will observe that all the salt dissolved in water, the sand is what that leaves behind. Filter the solution. The sand remains behind and the salt dissolved in water gets filtered of all the sand. Then evaporate the solution by heating it to get back the dissolved salt in its crystalline form.
