2x - 3y = 7 .....(i)

5x + y = 9 .......(ii)

Now, we can multiply equation (i) by 1 and equation (ii) by 3, and on doing so, we will get :

15x + 3y = 27

So, at present, equation (ii) becomes 15x + 3y = 27

Now, equation (i) + equation (ii) gives us the following :

2x - 3y + 15x + 3y = 7 + 27

Or, 17x = 34

Or, x = 2

Therefore, by putting the value of x in equation (i) we get :

2×2 - 3y = 7

Or, - 3y = 7-4

Or, y =

 -  \frac{3}{3}

Or, y = -1

Ultimately the solution set is x=2, y=-1.
