Now triangle ABC and Triangle ACD are right angle triangles.

By Pythagoras theorem,(^2 means square)

in triangle ABC,

AC^2=AB^2+BC^2. -------(1)

Similarly, in triangle ACD

AC^2=AD^2+ CD^2. -------(2)

from (1) and (2),

AB^2+BC^2=AD^2+ CD^2

(rearranging terms)

=>AB^2-AD^2=CD^2-BC^2

hence proved.
