 \bf Solving \:  an  \: Equation

Method 1 : Balancing Method

Rule 1 : We can add the same number to both sides of an equation.

Rule 2: We can subtract the same number from both sides of an equation.

Rule 3: We can multiply both sides of an equation by the same non zero number.

Rule 4: We can divide both sides of inquation by the same non-zero number.

Example:-

Find the value x if x - 3 = 7

Solution:

 \mathfrak{x - 3 = 7}

Adding 3 on both sides, we get

\mathfrak{x - 3 + 3 = 7  + 3}

 \implies \mathfrak{x = 10}

Method 2 : Transposition Method

Under this process we can shift a term from one side of an equation to the other side with sign changed.

Note : (i) First isolate the variable term on one side and all the constants on the other side and collect like terms.

(ii) Make the coefficient of the variable 1.

Example:-

Solve: 3x+5 = 5x-11

Solution :-

\mathfrak{3 {x}  + 5 = 5x - 11}

[Transposing 3x to R.H.S and -11 to L.H.S]

 \implies \mathfrak{5 + 11 = 5x - 3x = 16 = 2x}

Dividing both sides by 2, we get

 \implies \sf  x =  \dfrac{16}{2}  = 8

x = 8 is the solution of the given equation.
