How to solve if two numbers are in the ratio of 3:5 . If the sum of numbers is 144 , then the smaller number is

The sum of ratios = 3x+5x
3x+5x=144
8x= 144
x=144/8
x=18
3x= 3×18= 54
5x=18×5=90
