Let the no. of boys be x.

Since, each boy get 5 oranges. So, total no. of oranges = 5x.

When no. of boys less by 40. So, now no. of boys = (x� - 40)

Each boy get 6 oranges So, total no. of oranges = 6(x - 40)

So,

6(x - 40) = 5x

6x - 240 = 5x

So, x = 240

So, total no. of boys = 240

total no. of oranges = 240 X 5 = 1200
