How to solve six years ago annabelle was twice as old as jason was. now, annabelle is four years older than jason. how old is jason now?

I began by using even numbers such as 2, 4, 6, 8 so I got to 8 for Annabelle and 4 for Jason then added 6 years to get 8+6=14 and 4+6=10 and these fit with Annabelle at 14 and Jason at 10.
