●Given that :

• Mass of Solid : 84.2grams

• Initial volume of water in the cylinder : 36 mL →vu(let)

• Final volume of water in the cylinder : 60 mL→vv(let)

→vu - vv = V

60mL - 36mL = 24 mL

To Find :

•The density of the solid= ρ

Solution :

  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \red{\bold   {density =  \frac{mass}{volume} }} \\  \\  \sf \: ρ =  \frac{m}{V} \\ \\  \sfρ =  \frac{84.2g}{24mL} \\\ \\ \sf ρ= 3.5 g {mL}^{ - 3}

Key Points :

The density of a substance is it's mass per unit volume

The formula for density : ρ = m/V

here;

'ρ(rho)' a Greek word used as symbol for density.

'm' is the mass of the substance

'V 'is the volume of the substance.

Density is directly proportional to mass.

density is inversely proportional to volume.

I hope you understand.
