There are two ways to find Refractive index:

1) sin of i / sin of refraction

2) speed of light in vacuum/ speed of light in

that medium

Answer:

Refractive index are of two type so we have two different formulas

1st is absolute refractive index: It is defined as the ratio of the velocity of light in vacuum/air to the velocity of light in the medium.

formula: n = c/v.

where n is refractive index

c is speed/velocity of light in air/vaccum

v is speed/velocity of light in 2nd medium

2nd is relative refractive index: it is defined as the ratio of the velocity of light in 1st medium to the velocity of light in 2nd medium.

formula: n2.1= v1/v2

where n2.1 is refractive index of medium 2 in medium 1

v1 is speed/velocity of light in medium 1

v2 is speed/velocity of light in medium 2

so by this two formula u can easily solve any questions.

hope you understand:>

pro tip~ 1st of all don't panic if u can't make refractive index question especially if u are in class 10. it is a new concept and u are not familiar with. so u have to practice a lot of questions.

all the best..keep fighting
