x + y = 12

x + 2x = 12 ( y = 2x )

3x = 12

x = 4

x + y = 12 ----------(1)

y = 2x ----------(2)

Substitute the value of y from eqⁿ (2) in eqⁿ (1), we get

x + 2x = 12

3x = 12

x= 12/3

x = 4

Substitute the value x=4 in eqⁿ(2), we get

y = 2×4

y = 8

Hence, x = 4 and y = 8
