IS OVERTHINKING RELATED TO DEPRESSION?

Overthinking and excessive worrying create feelings of distress and restlessness that may lead to anxiety or depression if left undealt with. Taking back control of your thoughts is the key to feeling peaceful again. Overthinkers are people who are buried in their own obsessive thoughts.

MY EXPERIENCE

Overthinking is a common issue I address in my life. I can't relax. It's like my brain won't shut off, I can't stop thinking about how my life could have been better if I'd done things differently.

It’s easy for anyone to get caught up in overthinking.

But Fortunately, there are several mental health excercises you can do to change the channel in your brain from overthinking into a more healthy mindset.

Studies show that scheduling your time can actually decrease overthinking. Rather than worry all day every day, you can contain your worries to just 15 minutes a day.

With just a little effort, you can adjust your thinking and take steps to replace overthinking with more productive self-reflection and problem-solving. In doing so, you will reclaim your brainpower, energy, and time.

Telling yourself to stop thinking about something can backfire. The more you try to avoid the thought from entering your brain, the more likely it is to keep popping up.Busying yourself with an activity is the best way to change the channel. Exercise, engage in conversation on a completely different subject, or get working on a project that will distract your mind from the barrage of negative thoughts.

Awareness is the first step in putting an end to overthinking. Start paying attention to the way you think. When you notice you’re re-playing events in your mind over and over, or worrying about things you can’t control, acknowledge that your thoughts aren’t productive.
