Answer:
How should students take benefits from the Internet and avoid its bad effects?
As with all things, you should approach it with self-discipline. Make sure you stick to a schedule as much as possible, have specifics you want to research, learn, or read. Browsing with no plan can lead to some dark places unfortunately. If you are only going to be online for an hour, then don’t go over it. You need to learn the difference between fact and opinion. Treat anything you read with skepticism and logic, ESPECIALLY social media. Don’t buy into the “hype” so easily. Stay away from dark places, period. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. It has affects, even if you don’t see it right away.
Oh, and realize that with most sites, you are a customer, and while it may be fun, you are a customer, a targeted consumer. You are being monitored, logged, and analyzed with what you search on and read. And it feeds into what may also be presented to you. Get something like “No Script” and GoDuckGo, as it will help. And don’t just click on anything, stick to your plan, once done, then log off. The internet can affect your reality. Realize the internet is not the physical world, make sure there is a separation there.
Create an avatar. Write down an avatar, a fake persona that you can create with birthdates, first addresses, parents names, etc and even its own email address. Everyone wants an email address to register (remember you are a customer), so give them an email address designed for this purpose. And also, just because a security question asks for info to validate an account, doesn’t mean you have to be accurate, it just has to be remembered. It isn’t a truth test. For government and finances and certain sites, yes you have to be truthful about things, but security questions are not truth tests. Anything else, use your avatar. Oh, and for the love of everything, don’t be another troll, just don’t.
