first get the concept
second learn understand saturated and unsaturated compounds definitions
third learn how to give iupac names
then learn the places that are to be given for the compound in an structural formula
then learn the lab preparation of the compounds
for alkene and alkene learn the test for unsaturation

its just my opinion on how i learn since my teacher teaches bad it may differ for you may not be this complicated if your teacher teaches pretty much easier
