The is used before the name of place things and an is used in the place of a e i o u where you hear the sound of vowels only .Last left A. It is used where the rest of the sentences are.

a or an is used in place of indefinite things
a used for consonant sounds ( except vowels)
an is used for vowels (a, e, i, o, u)
