Tina says to Rupsa, 'What is your name?' Here, 'what is your name?' is string of actiual words used by the speaks Tina. The string is marked off by inverted commas("....."). This is called Direct Narration or Direct speech.

Tina asked me what my name was. In this case Rupsa did not qoute the actual words of Tina (what is your name?) . This is called Indirect Narration or Indirect speech.
