answer :-
The separation of magnetic materials from nonmagnetic materials, using a magnet. This is an esp. important process in the beneficiation of iron ores in which the magnetic mineral is separated from nonmagnetic material; e.g., magnetite from other minerals, roasted pyrite from sphalerite, etc.
ii. The use of permanent magnets or electromagnets to remove relatively strongly ferromagnetic particles from paramagnetic and diamagnetic ores.

Magnetic separtiing means that separtion is done by magnet.
A magnet always attract magnetic objects, so the mixture should contain magnetic material to be separated.
You just simply move your magnet over that mixture to attract the iron or magnetic substance.
