if the result is zero then it is if not then it is not

substitute the given number in the place of the variable , if the result is zero ,then the given value is the "zero" of the polynomial, since it makes it equal to zero.
for ex-
verify if -5 is the zero of linear polynomial p(X)=X+5
(sub.-5 in place of X, )we get -
-5+5=0
therefore -5 is the zero of the polynomial.
