It's very simple,

Just read my ans carefully,

There are characters of metal and nonmetal.

A metal can lose electrons and become positive this is it's metallic character.

A non metal can gain electrons and become electro negative this is non metallic character.

So,

2,8,6

6 valence electrons are present,

To make it stable it needs 2 electrons or have to lose 6 electrons

Now 6 electrons are a large number so if it loses 6 electrons instead of being stable it will become unstable

So it needs to gain 2 electrons to become stable,

So gaining electrons and becoming stable is the character of non metal

Hence, whenever valence electrons are greater than 4 then it's a non metal

Remember, I am using the word valence electron not valency ........

So here is your ans....

Hope it helps u
