We buy crackers, sweets ,new dresses,and then we will go to temple and worship god. then with my friend bursting cracers all the day.

During his death Naraka requested that people celebrate the victory of good over evil with new clothes , bursting of crackers etc. People in Tamil Nadu do not consider diwali as festival as lights as we have a separate one during the Kartik Month according to Tamil Calendar.It is the same festival with a spelling difference. Etymologically, Deepavali is a Sanskrit word meaning row of lamps. Diwali is a corrupted form of Deepavali used in North Indian languages. Interestingly, South Indian states, Malaysia and Singapore use the etymologically correct name, Deepavali.
