There are two generally accepted ways to write a report on a traffic crash:
By using a pen and filling out the various boxes on a paper crash report, or,By using a computer keyboard to input data in a computerized crash report.
In my experience, most crash reports are written using method 1. Illinois did not have great success in rolling out their paperless crash report system (method 2) before I retired.
The information is pretty easy to figure out, too. You would include the particulars on any people involved, the details on any vehicles or other property damaged during the crash, and a narrative with details of your investigation and the statements of the involved parties.
In some crashes, precise measurements of all evidence and debris are included, so the report is much longer. In others, a quick sketch and a few sentences in the narrative are more than enough.
