The saying goes, 'Pain is inevitable but suffering is optional.' Learning to cope with loss should be the first thing to be taught to a child. For the life journey has many loss milestones. If not taught about loss or coping with it, children may develop faulty understanding about loss. They can fall to brooding and dejection that naturally follow loss. They must be told that losses are an integral part of life. They must be told about the life examples of great personalities who didn't give up chasing their dreams in spite of the frequent losses they met. Examples such as Lincoln, Helen Keller, Einstein, Vivekananda, Jessica Cox, etc. will really inspire them and motivate them to adapt themselves in the face of failures and losses. They should be taught the inspiring meaning of P.B.Shelley's following line: "If winter comes, can spring be far behind?"
