Use the reporting verb, "say" or "said to" in its correct tense.Remove the conjuctions "that, to, if or whether etc". ...Insert quotation marks, question mark, exclamation and fullstop, wherever necessary.Put a comma before the statement

We mau quote the words actually used by a speaker. This is called DIRECT SPEECH.

ex :- Ravi said,'' I am fond of tea''

We may report the speaker's words in the form of a narrator instead of his actual words. This is called INDIRECT SPEECH.

ex:- Ravi said that he was fond of tea.
