Answer:

Depends a lot on the depth of study and premeditation of each student. Textual references and untextual contexts in an essay ‘technically' enhances the essay. But creativity is also a major factor while writing an answer. It shows your comprehension of the syllabus and the extent of your ability of interpretation. Multiple interpretations of a single piece of work are almost always welcome on the part of the professors who check your answers or essays. As one of my teachers said, the aim of a literature student is not to simplify something , but to problematize it. That is to say, you must find new questions as you're trying to answer an old one.

But as a student, we must keep track of time during exams. My suggestion is, prepare your answers before you go to the hall. Learning answers by heart helped very little in my case. So I used to make bullet points of the topics I would be discussing and studied those points jn detail. I would elaborate those points during my exam from my perspective. It helped me understand better and to elaborate better as well. Practice this at home and in your class as well.
