There are many social issues that we may write about for instance, women empowerment, environmental degradation, untouchability, drug abuse etc .

Below are some points on women  equality:

• The issue of women equality has always occupied the centre stage of discussion.

• Women have become victims of the patriarchal society which establishes men’s domination as natural and inevitable.

• We may have established Democracy formally that embraces the notion of liberty, equality and believes in enhancing the dignity of an individual but there exist a sharp contrast between theory and practice.

• Rape, female infanticide, incidents of domestic violence, denial of opportunities for women have become an integral part of Indian Society and needs to be condemned.

• The literacy rate amongst women is, families prefer male education., similarly, women are paid less at the work place.

• Many  Women movements over the years has sought to highlight the plight of women demanding equality in reality.

• Some progress has been made to encourage women’s representation for example,73rd and 74th Constitutional amendment acts provided for 1/3rd reservation of seats in the local bodies for the weaker section and women.

• Women's Representation Bill which sought to provide 1/3rd reservation of seats for women in the Parliament has been passed in the Rajya Sabha.

• Further many laws have been made made to empower women and protect them like the Domestic violence act, Dowry prohibition act, but still there a long way to go.

• We need to change perception of the society to end the discrimination that women are
