Answer:

Formulae formed- CO2

C(s) + O2(l) -> CO2(g)

Sorry can't give the up arrow. Not possible from my device

Explanation:

Very simple

C has valency 4, and needs to give 4 electrons to attain stability, or noble octet electronic configuration.

On the other hand, Oxygen needs to take 2 electrons in order to gain stability or noble octet electronic configuration.

Therefore,

1. We transfer the charges of both elements to one another, or inn simple words, the +4 charge of Carbon to Oxygen and the -2 charge of Oxygen to Carbon. this is known as the criss-cross method.

2. We write both the charges as subscript on the right hamd side of each element. It also denoted the number of atoms in the molecule formed.Therefore, the final results should be C2O4.

Note-It We are writing Carbon first and then Oxygen because always the element with the positive charge is placed at the beginning, and then the element with the negative charge. For example Aluminium has +3 charge, and Ferrous has -2 charge, so, their formulae would be Al2F3, not F3Al2.

3. If there is any common factor in the subscripts of the compound, then we divide the subscripts we the common factor. As in the compound C2O4, the common factor in the subscripts is 2, so we divide the subscripts by two.

4. After dividing the subscript with the common factor, the answer would be CO2

Hope it helps.
