In writing the formula of a compound containing a -1 H, use the same rules that apply to a simple chloride ion, i.e. sodium hydride would be written like sodium chloride as NaH, calcium hydride same as calcium chloride as CaH2 and so on.
Two impotant hydride compounds used in organic synthesis are lithium aluminium hydride (LiAlH4) and sodium borohydride (NaBH4), both are reducing reagents used in reducing carbon atom to lower oxidation states in organic compounds. The former is a stronger reducing reagent.
