In an element, we can see that the ions of one type is smaller than the other so the smaller one is having suffix of 'ous' and another as 'ic'
i.e
Fe^2+ = ferrous iron(II)
Fe^3+ = ferric iron(III)
i.e
Fe^2+ = ferrous iron(II)
Fe^3+ = ferric iron(III)
