In powerful countries, nationalism can lead to imperialism.

Nationalism can be defined as the idea that your country is superior to all others.

If people feel nationalistic, they might start to want to prove that their country is better than the others. One way to prove this is by taking an empire.

Negative effects of imperialism:

Imperialism can give native peoples from different countries many positive opportunities and the change to live a new improved lifestyle. Imperialism can change laws giving people more freedom and rights. Because of early contact with Europeans and Africans, there are now cultures such as; African-American.

Nationalism refers to the feeling of oneness felt by the people who share common History , language andcultural background .

By the latter half of 19th century this nationalism turned into extreme pride and led to the rise of AGGRESSIVE NATIONALISM.

Aggressive nationalism meant love for one's own country and hatred of other nations. All the nations thought and cared their own country by ignoring other countries like France wanted to get back its provinces of Alsace and Lorraine from Germany. These countries developed expansionist policies in the name of nationalism.

.This Aggressive nationalism also led to the rise of IMPERIALISM , a system by which a powerful nation used to establish it's control over another country , through outright wars or by political pressure.

By the end of the 19th century , England and France built up a huge colonial empire in Asia and Africa which made them more Powerful and Resourceful countries . Some countries like Germany , Italy , Russia and Japan wanted to set up colonies in Asia and Africa to expand their country both economically and resourcefully as these colonies are rich in raw materials essential for their industries. This made clash of interest among the European countries. Thus , growing aggressive nationalism filled the atmoshpere with apprehension , mutual hatred and international tension.
