1. Untouchability is a social evil because the backward classes are denied the very fundamental rights, which are guaranteed to each and every citizen by the Constitution.

2. Untouchability alienates people from the social structure and hinders the progress of the society as a whole.

3. The untouchables are considered 'impure' and are denied access to all basic rights and facilities, which they are entitled to for a living.

4. They do not get access to education and are left ignorant of healthcare issues, cleanliness, etc.

5. The practice of untouchability disturbs the spirit of communal harmony and universal brotherhood.

Answer:

It brings forward a bad practice and caste system which increases the social barriers in our society. It is evil as it brings a felling of discourage and discontent between the citizens of India who fall into the backwards classes like OBC,SCs,Sts.

Many reformers fought against it. One of the most famous was DR Bhim Rao Ambedkar. He started temple entry movement.
