Some living organisms have defense mechanisms, like the known species of poisonous snakes have venom. Neurotoxins in the venom affect the nervous system and haemotoxins affect the blood. When Tetrodotoxin (or, TTX), a very potent neurotoxin, in the venom enters the human body, it blocks motor neuron pathways, causing paralysis. Paralysis of the intercostal muscles of the lungs and the diaphragm results in the victim not being able to breathe and this causes the person to go into a coma or results in death owing to oxygen not going into the brain. Tetrodotoxin is an extremely toxic poison and no cure has been found to combat its effects.
