    Vera, the niece of Mrs. Sappleton, fooled Framton by saying that Mrs, Sappleton’s husband and the two brothers and the dog had died in an accident while hunting. And that was why Mrs. Sappleton always kept the French window open every day because she believed that they would return some day.

   A few minutes later, Mrs Sappleton came to Framton telling about hunting. He felt disturbed and changed the topic. That was the time when he noticed three figures walking across the lawn. He assumed that they were ghosts. He felt terrified and ran out of the house.
