Vernacular literature played an important role in transforming socio-political aspects of India in 19th century. We see in 19th century, various socio- religious reformers and nationalist leaders wrote in vernacular languages. Moreover various books were translated into varcular languages as well.

The vernacular literature made possible for common man to read it and know the reality.

The literature in vernacular languages focussed on abuses of caste system, sati, unnecessary customs and rituals, multiculturalism, women empowerment, equality, liberty and self-determination. As the vernacular literature was understandable to common man, it had a great impact on socio-political transformation of 19th century India.
