Agruculture was and important cause of drforestation because people practised slash and burnt cultivation.They clear a piece of land and burn the leftover to make it suitable for agriculture.

Agriculture was practised in large amount and it is because of agriculture where they practice shifting cultivation and the land which is burnt is no more used and it had lost its nutrient contents.
