Aurangzeb is known for his religious intolerance, which lead to the beginning of the downfall of the Mughal Empire in the early 1700’s. During his reign, destruction of temples was not unusual and the execution of the Sikh leader Guru Tege Bahadur shortly after being found of blasphemy is reflective of his restrictive standpoints.
That is contrasting to Akbar, his great-grandfather, who promoted the variety of culture and art throughout the territory in hopes of religious unity. Akbar is renowned for flourishing Perso-Indian culture throughout the medieval civilization, and was highly spoken of by religious leaders of many beliefs.
