Britishers only wanted clerks. they wanted a community which is Indian by colour and blood but British by the thoughts. In short they wanted subordinates for their help.

In British education system there isn't any discrimination among people in society regarding caste, gender, colour, etc.,.
But in Indian education system the number of educated men are more than that of womens and the higher castes are generally educated whereas the lower ones are said to be illiterate.
