One must understand that North Vietnam, presently Vietnam had been ruled by China for over 1000 years. That’s a long time, before they finally achieved their independence in the 10th century.

During that time it was North Vietnam. South Vietnam had countries such as Cambodia.

Culturally it’s understandable why Vietnamese were heavily influenced by China. However, even politically, the ease of implementation of the Chinese imperial court was another reason why Vietnam followed it.
