Lakhs of years ago remains of dead plants got burried deep into the soil
and into the earths crust.
Gradually due to the pressure inside and temperature all the fluid materials got drained away and what was left was carbon .
This carbon got converted into coal which we use in our everyday life .It takes lakhs of yrs for coal to form
hence the deposits of coal are very few

Millions of years ago dense forest got buried under the soil due to natural processes like storms, floods and earthquakes . These got compressed as more and more soil got buried deep in the ground . In the soil, they were exposed to very high pressure and temperature. Under these conditions , those slowly got converted into coal. This process is called carbonization .
