how was coal formed in nature

Most of the coal we use now was formed about 300 million years ago, when much of the earth was covered by steamy swamps. As plants and trees died, their remains sank to the bottom of the swampy areas, making layers and layers of plant material and eventually forming a soggy, thick material called PEAT.

coal was formed from plants remains got buried deep under the earth's crust . over a large period of time 5he chemical and physical properties of these plants wete changed through theological actions that led to the the creation of this solid material The process of conversion of dead plant material into coal is known as carbonisation .( my ans is correct but the picture which I send is wrong sorry)
