french society in the old regime was divided into 3 estates
1 first state which included nobles and king they didn't pay taxes . instead levied taille from 3 estate
2 second state which was clergy levied taxes from 3 estate
3 estate comprised of business man, peasant , labour artisan etc
there was inequality in the society

FIRST ESTATE- The first estate consisted of clergy.They enjoyed most of the privelages and did not have to pay taxes.

SECOND ESTATE- The second estate condsisted of the nobility .They also enjoyed most of the privileges.

THIRD ESTATE- The third estate consisted of the peasants,small shopkeepers, land lords court ,officials ,labourers,artisans,landless labourers, lawyers,servants,merchants etc.
