The French society in the old regime was divided into three estates:
1.First estate had the Clergy
2.Second estate had nobles
3.Third estate comprised of businessmen, doctors, lawyers, peasants, daily wage workers etc.


The privileges of the first and the second estate:
They were privileged from birth.They were exempted from paying taxes.Furether,the nobles collected taxes from the third estate.The members of the third estate had to work on the fields of the second estate
