Gales-burg in the past and present was quite different.

Explanation:

  • This question is regarding the interesting story called The Third Level.

  • The narrator of the story exhibits psychological problems hence he does not realize how fast time has gone away.

  • According to him, Gales-burg is very much like he remembers when he was a child. He thinks this town with big houses still has wonderful evenings and peaceful days or nights. People sit in their lawns and enjoy their time talking quietly to each other.

  • He also thinks the place is still very cheap. But, all of this has changed now that it has become a very modern city with astounding architecture.

Galesburg was cheaper in  the past than the present in the story 'The Third Level.'

Explanation:

'The Third Level' is a short story written by Jack Finney. The story is about a man named Charlie, who is 31 years old.

The protagonist, one day, while boarding the train on the Grand Central Station, takes the route of subway to rush home where he finds the Third Level. The Third Level is an imaginary escape route of the protagonist to a world of fantasy from the harsh realities of the world.

The train from the Third Level took the protagonist back to Galesburg, Illinois 1894.

Charlie describes Galesburg 1894 the same as he remembered in his childhood days. It was peaceful in the past unlike at the present in Galesburg.

He says that Galesburg at present has become expensive unlike past,  when things were cheaper.

People in the past used to sit together and share a good time with each other unlike the present when everyone is busy in their own chores.
