The ‘Vedas’ are the knowledges and messages of the Supreme being given to us. From the beginning of time, it is being taught and transfered by the Gurus (teachers) to the Shishyas (students), by parents to their childern from one generation to the next. This continuous process of teachings is called ‘Guru-Shishya parampara’. But ‘How did we get it?’ to know this you need to know from the starting. How did it began? In the beginning of the creation, Brahma came out of the Vishnu through the lotus of Vishnu's naval and created his sons (Narad, Daksh and many more). Of his sons, Rishi Marichi was the one who was the father of Rishi Kashyap. Then came the 12 Adityas as the sons of Rishi Kashyap and Aditi. Of the 12 Adityas one is Vivasan (Surya Dev or the Sun god). The son of Dev Vivasan and Devi Saranyu (also known as Sanghya) was Vaivasat Manu the first human being of this Manwantar (7th of the 14) of Sveta-Varaha kalpa. And from him the human beings came. And by this way the Vedas got taught by the Paramatma Brahma to his son and from son to grandson and then to Vivasan and finally to Manu from whom the Vedas came to us from our forefathers.
